The 24th session of the Intergovernmental Council of the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) took place virtually from 28 to 30 June 2021. Numerous national delegations were actively involved in discussions about important decisions for the next Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme 2022-2029.
All Council’s working documents are available here. The most important decision was the adoption of the Strategic Plan for the IHP-IX, i.e. for the ninth phase of the Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme 2022-2029. The Draft Strategic Plan IHP-IX is available here. An important contribution in the last two years (the preparation phase before the formal adoption of the plan) was secured also by Slovenia, as Dr Brilly as an IHP Council member was also Chair of the Open-Ended Working Group for Strategic Plan of IHP-IX. Furthermore, the mid-term evaluation of IHP-VIII was presented, and the way forward for the IHP Flagships and Initiatives was discussed. New Terms of Reference for IHP National Committees were adopted.
The Intergovernmental Council discusses two resolutions that were supported also by the Slovenian NC IHP, and adopted them both:
- Resolution on the Global Water Museum Network WAMU-NET
- Resolution on the International Glossary on Water (Background note is available here)
Dr Mikoš (Head of Slovenian national delegation) and Dr Brilly (IHP Council Member) were actively involved in the Council’s work.
